The two 20-year-old midfielders combined on the only goal in the U.S. team’s 1-0 Gold Cup quarterfinal victory over Curacao. Now they will try to help the U.S. beat Jamaica in the semifinals.

The United States was outplayed during the second half by 79th-ranked Curacao but managed to advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals with a 1-0 win behind Weston McKennie’s goal in the 25th minute. The defending champion U.S. extended its Gold Cup winning streak to nine and will play Jamaica on Wednesday at Nashville, Tennessee, in the second semifinal, a night after Mexico faces Haiti at Glendale, Arizona. The U.S. reached the semifinals for the 10th straight Gold Cup.

Neymar leads Brazil past U.S. before sparse crowd

Neymar and Roberto Firmino scored first-half goals, and Brazil overwhelmed the United States 2-0 before a sparse crowd of 32,469 at MetLife Stadium. Firmino scored in the 11th minute off a cross from Douglas Costa, who burst down a flank past 21-year-old left back Antonee Robinson. Neymar converted a penalty kick in the 44th for his 58th goal, third for Brazil behind Pele’s 77 and Ronaldo’ 62. The U.S. has two wins, two losses and three ties under interim coach Dave Sarachan.
