Mike Weir, Brendon Todd among 10 U.S. Open qualifiers

Former Masters champion Mike Weir is returning to the US Open for the first time in six years. He’s one of 10 players who advanced from the first sectional qualifier. Brendon Todd shared medalist honors with Nick Taylor of Canada at the 36-hole qualifier in Dallas. This one was held early, in part because of changes to the PGA Tour schedule. The other nine sectional qualifiers in the U.S. are scheduled for June 3.

Gunn shows his flair again

Jimmy Gunn, who made the cut thanks to a bogey by amateur Nick Hardy on the last hole Friday, made the most of his extended stay at the U.S. Open. He shot his second 70 of the weekend on Sunday. And just like Saturday, when Gunn birdied the last three holes, Gunn closed in style with birdies at 16 and 18. Gunn, who has been sponsored on mini-tours by the Coeur d’Alene Casino, turned in 2-under 33 but opened the back side with double bogeys on 10 and 11.
