Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell unanimous picks for NBA All-Rookie team

Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons and Utah’s Donovan Mitchell have been unanimously voted to the NBA’s All-Rookie team. The two guards received all 100 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters. Boston’s Jayson Tatum also was selected Tuesday to the first team, falling one vote short of being unanimous. Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma and Chicago’s Lauri Markkanen rounded out the first team.

Former Gonzaga forward Zach Collins makes impact as Trail Blazers rookie

Zach Collins’ rookie year with the Portland Trail Blazers was more like two seasons in one. The former Gonzaga Bulldog barely saw the floor in the first two months of the season. He averaged 3.8 minutes per November game. Collins carved out a spot in the rotation in December and his playing time soared into the 14-18 minute range.

Corey Seager, Michael Fulmer take Rookie of the Year honors

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager was a unanimous winner of the N.L. Rookie of the Year award, and Detroit right-hander Michael Fulmer beat out New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez for the A.L. honor. Fulmer received 26 of 30 first-place votes.

$2.5 million payday for Hunter-Reay

INDIANAPOLIS – Ryan Hunter-Reay’s Indianapolis 500 win brought him a $2.49 million payday, Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced. Hunter-Reay edged Helio Castroneves by 0.060 seconds Sunday in the second-closest margin of victory in the history of the race. He is the first American to win since 2006.
