Former Zag Kevin Pangos has right approach, right attitude with NBA goal in sight

Washington Wizards point guard John Wall has emerged as one of the best floor generals in the NBA. He’s the franchise player, and there’s certainly no other point guard who will supplant him in Washington anytime soon. But that hasn’t discouraged former Gonzaga standout Kevin Pangos from taking his best shot at earning an invite to Washington, D.C. when training camp opens in September.

Blanchette: Bell and Pangos left important legacy

In the spring of 2000 – still at the beginning of things, in the modest scope of Millenial Zag – Matt Santangelo, Richie Frahm, Mike Nilson and Ryan Floyd departed the Gonzaga basketball program in the greatest exodus of backcourt achievement in Inland Northwest college basketball history.

Area roundup: Idaho will not play Boise State in men’s basketball this season

The football rivalry between the University of Idaho and Boise State University has laid dormant since 2010. Now, the men’s basketball rivalry, which has been played between the two schools since 1971, could follow the same path.  It’s been confirmed to the Spokesman-Review that Idaho and Boise State will not meet in a nonconference game this season. It was first reported by the Idaho Statesman.

Grip on Sports: Kevin Pangos can’t beat a woman in shooting contest? So what?

Friday: Kevin Pangos won the 3-point shooting contest last night. (I know, I know. Gonzaga fans everywhere on hearing the news Pangos had 23, 23 and 22 points in his three rounds vs. other men are wishing he could have hit one or two of those against Duke.) That’s cool, but that’s not the best part of the story. Portland’s Cassandra Brown won the women’s division of the State Farm College Slam event at Butler’s historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. That means the two best outside shooters in their respective genders came from the WCC.

Area roundup: Kevin Pangos wins 3-point contest

Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos wowed the capacity crowd at Hinkle Fieldhouse on his way to victory in the 2015 State Farm College Slam Three-Point Championship on Thursday evening in Indianapolis.  The Zags senior scored 23 points in each of the first two rounds and knocked down 22 in the final round against Butler’s Alex Barlow and UConn’s Ryan Boatright.

Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos carries on new Canadian trend

SEATTLE – Kevin Pangos had just scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half to help Gonzaga hold off North Dakota State on Friday, but the initial line of postgame questioning had nothing to do with his performance. Pangos fielded several questions from a reporter on the growing numbers of Canadians on NCAA rosters. It’s a scene that has played out several times in Pangos’ career when Gonzaga plays on the road or in the NCAA tournament. The Zags have gone north of the border for numerous recruits, including Pangos, Kelly Olynyk, Robert Sacre, Manny Arop and Bol Kong. Kyle Wiltjer, whose father Greg played for Canada in the 1984 Olympics, holds dual citizenship.
