Red Sox LHP Chris Sale goes on IL with left elbow inflammation

The Boston Red Sox have placed left-hander Chris Sale on the 10-day injured list with left elbow inflammation. President Dave Dombrowski said Sale had an MRI and the team’s doctors said the results revealed inflammation. Dombrowski also said Sale felt stiffness after his start Tuesday in Cleveland and didn’t tell the team until Friday.

Red Sox exercise $15 million 2019 option on ace Chris Sale

The Red Sox have exercised their $15 million option for next season on ace left-hander Chris Sale. Sale will earn $15 million in the final season of a five-year contract he signed with the Chicago White Sox before the 2013 season that guaranteed $32.5 million, including a 2017 option buyout. He had a $12.5 million salary this season in the first of two option years and will wind up earning $59 million over seven seasons plus bonuses. Sale can become a free agent after the 2019 World Series.

Alex Cora: Chris Sale to start World Series opener for Boston Red Sox, David Price likely for Game 2

Boston ace Chris Sale will start Tuesday’s World Series opener and David Price probably will follow in Game 2, Boston manager Alex Cora says. Sale and Price also started the first two games of both the AL Division Series and AL Championship Series. Cora has yet to decide for starters in Games 3 and 4. Cora says Sale is ready to return after missing his scheduled start in Game 5 of the Championship Series because of a stomach issue that led to a hospital stay.

Cautious Red Sox put ace Chris Sale back on disabled list

The Boston Red Sox have returned ace Chris Sale to the 10-day disabled list after just one healthy start. The left-hander was already on the DL with left shoulder inflammation once this month. He was activated against the Orioles on Sunday and struck out 12 in five innings. He is 12-4 with a 1.97 ERA. Boston is cruising in the AL East, and the Red Sox want Sale to get rest for what the team hopes will be a long playoff run.

Red Sox LHP Chris Sale scheduled to return from DL on Sunday

Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale is scheduled to come off the 10-day disabled list and start against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The lefty hasn’t pitched since July 27 because of mild left shoulder inflammation. He leads the American League in ERA and strikeouts.
