NBA roundup: Kings snap Celtics’ 10-game winning streak

Buddy Hield scored a season-high 35 points, Richaun Holmes hit two free throws with 13.3 seconds remaining to give Sacramento the lead, and the Kings snapped the Boston Celtics’ 10-game winning streak with a 100-99 victory Sunday

Celtics F Gordon Hayward: Latest injury ‘frustrating’

Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward said he considers it “relatively good news” that his latest injury is only expected to keep him out for six weeks, even though it struck just as he was returning to form from the broken leg that cost him almost a full season.

Kemba Walker, Enes Kanter join Celtics

Even as the Boston Celtics were introducing new point guard Kemba Walker at their practice facility, there was still a lot of attention on the old one. The Celtics and their fans still haven’t gotten over Kyrie Irving’s brief flameout in Boston, where he joined a conference finalist but never really clicked. Irving left for the Brooklyn Nets, and Walker will try to replace him. Walker also helped recruit fellow Celtics newcomer Enes Kanter.

Celtics assistant gets probation in college bribery case

A Boston Celtics assistant coach has been sentenced to four years’ probation and ordered to pay a fine for accepting $300,000 in bribes to get a wealthy Florida businessman’s son into the University of Pennsylvania. Court records show a federal judge imposed a lenient sentence Monday on Jerome Allen because the former head basketball coach at Penn helped prosecutors convict Philip Esformes in a $1 billion Medicare fraud. Allen testified that Esformes paid him to help his son Morris get accepted.

Jimmy Butler-to-Miami Heat gets done

The Miami Heat completed agreements on what will become a four-team trade Monday to land Butler from the Philadelphia 76ers, with the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers also involved. Miami gets Butler and Meyers Leonard, the Blazers get Hassan Whiteside, the Clippers get Harkless and a future first-round pick and the 76ers get Josh Richardson.

Larry looks back: Bird on Magic, free agency and shooting 3s

Larry Bird’s place in NBA history stretches from the record book to the rule book. He is the only person to be voted MVP, Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year. Set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, he discussed his relationship with Magic Johnson, having his name on an important piece of league business, and how the game has changed since he was a player.

Celtics boss Danny Ainge back at work after ‘mild’ heart attack

Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge spoke to reporters for the first time since his second heart attack and vowed “my role’s not going to change.” Ainge says he will eat better and exercise more but he’s still leading the team’s efforts to improve from a disappointing season in which it followed a conference final appearance with a second-round exit. The 60-year-old executive says there’s blame to go around, but fans are putting too much of it on point guard Kyrie Irving.

Couch Slouch: Boston’s run of success in sports unacceptable

I speak for all of America – except for the commonwealth of Massachusetts and certain pockets of New Hampshire and Portland, Maine – in stating that absolutely no one wants the Boston Bruins to win the Stanley Cup. In fact, absolutely no one wants any professional team from New England to win another title until the 22nd century, at the earliest.

Celtics trudge into offseason at end of challenging season

The Celtics didn’t live up to their championship expectations in 2018-19, thumped 4-1 in the second round of the playoffs by the Bucks. Boston now enters a pivotal offseason with Kyrie Irving and Al Horford both holding player options to return and key reserves Terry Rozier and Marcus Morris entering free agency. After a season in which chemistry was an issue, it leaves team president Danny Ainge with tough choices.
