Add another item to the Thanksgiving Day menu: Gonzaga vs. Kansas.
Gonzaga’s schedule has been edited numerous times, but one thing has remained virtually the same: The Zags aren’t exactly tip-toeing into the season.
The Zags on Monday learned that ESPN had pulled the plug on their season-opening tournament in Orlando. Gonzaga bounced back with plans to face Kansas on Nov. 25 in a four-team event in Fort Myers, Florida,

Shaun Shivers scored on an 11-yard run with 8:08 left to put No. 16 Auburn ahead, and another failed field goal by No. 5 Alabama in the Iron Bowl wiped away the Crimson Tide’s playoff hopes as the Tigers won 48-45 Saturday.
Gonzaga has thoroughly enjoyed its last three trips to Orlando, a trend the Zags hope continues next season. The Zags are officially part of the eight-team field at 2020 Orlando Invitational.
Bo Nix and the Auburn Tigers will finish the season trying to take advantage of the comforts of their home field. It has certainly been kinder to them than the road, where the 11th-ranked Tigers’ offense and their freshman quarterback have struggled at times. That held true again in a 23-20 loss at No. 1 LSU last weekend.
Skylar Thompson and Kansas State dealt a big blow to No. 5 Oklahoma’s national title hopes. Thompson threw for 213 yards and ran for four touchdowns, the defense did just enough against Heisman Trophy contender Jalen Hurts and the Sooners’ prolific offense, and Kansas State held on through a harrowing fourth quarter for a 48-41 victory Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas.
The challenge for Jeremiah Dinson and No. 9 Auburn in Baton Rouge on Saturday will be contending with Joe Burrow and No. 2 LSU’s explosive offense.
The last time Arkansas coach Chad Morris felt this much pressure to win was nearly 20 years ago. His first year at Stephenville High School in East Texas resulted in the Yellow Jackets missing the playoffs for the first time in 15 years.
Lamical Perine ran 88 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and No. 10 Florida beat seventh-ranked Auburn 24-13 in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday.
Kyle Trask was a backup quarterback with four collegiate passes this time last year. That’s still four more than Bo Nix, who was in high school. Now, Trask is the starting quarterback for No. 10 Florida and Nix for seventh-ranked Auburn heading into a top 10 showdown Saturday in Gainesville, Florida.
The Auburn Tigers have successfully navigated one-third of the season largely because of one of the Southeastern Conference’s better defenses. The seventh-ranked Tigers (4-0) have climbed the rankings with a strong start while breaking in a freshman quarterback and facing two Top 25 opponents.
Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond can relate to the emotions Auburn’s Bo Nix must be feeling heading into the Aggies-Tigers showdown this weekend. Mond was once the youthful starter leading his team into big SEC road games.
Bo Nix is getting thrust right into the fire as Auburn’s new quarterback. When the 16th-ranked Tigers face No. 11 Oregon, Nix is set to become the first Auburn freshman to start the opener at quarterback since 1946. He’s the son of former Tigers quarterback Patrick Nix.
Former Auburn University assistant basketball coach Chuck Person has avoided prison in a bribery scandal that has touched some of the biggest schools in college basketball. Person was sentenced on Wednesday to 200 hours of community service during the two years the Probation Department will supervise him. Federal prosecutors say Person accepted $91,500 in bribes to parlay his relationships with top players to steer them to a financial adviser. The adviser was working as a government cooperator.
Auburn and basketball coach Bruce Pearl have agreed to a new five-year contract. The deal announced Friday, which is worth about $20 million, runs through the 2023-24 season. Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson says Pearl will be paid $3.8 million next season with a $125,000 increase in salary annually. The deal includes an $8 million buyout clause that begins next year and decreases by $2 million each year after that.
Auburn had erased a 10-point deficit in the final five minutes and led 62-60 before Kyle Guy stepped to the line in the final second.
Virginia and Auburn meet at the Final Four in the latest installment of a long-running competition in basketball: Slow and steady vs. fast and furious. The top-seeded Cavaliers are rarely in a hurry, playing a deliberate and methodical style. The Tigers take a frenetic approach. The first national semifinal Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium is likely to be decided by whether Auburn or Virginia dictates the pace of play.
