College baseball: Utah Valley roars back from 13-5 deficit to defeat Washington State

Utah Valley overcame a 13-5 deficit Tuesday and shocked Washington State 20-13 in nonconference baseball play in Orem, Utah.

The Wolverines (14-36) scored three runs in the sixth, eight in the seventh and four in the eighth to storm past the Cougars (10-37-1).

Utah Valley’s Michael Beltran and Mick Madsen finished a combined 6 for 9 with nine runs batted in.

Brody Barnum and Garrett Gouldsmith had three RBIs apiece for the Cougars.

WSU pitchers issued 12 walks and had seven wild pitches.

Oregon 10, Gonzaga 3: Evan Williams drove in three runs and the Ducks (26-24) turned to their bullpen to pull away from the Bulldogs (28-21) in nonconference play in Eugene.

Five Oregon relievers combined to allow one hit and one earned run over the final five innings.

The Ducks took control with a four-run fifth, scoring once on a bases-loaded hit by pitch and twice on bases-loaded walks.

Nick Nyquist’s two-run double to left in the fourth allowed the Zags to cut UO’s lead to 3-2.
