Prep softball: Ambrie Jones tosses one-hitter and Colville eliminates Riverside in 1A districts

Ambrie Jones allowed one hit with nine strikeouts over four innings and third-seeded Colville (13-5) eliminated visiting sixth-seeded Riverside (2-14) 15-0 in a District 7 1A first-round game on Thursday.

Keyla Luiten doubled twice and drove in four runs for Colville, which faces second-seeded Deer Park (13-7) in a semifinal at Lakeside HS on Saturday.

Freeman 8, Medical Lake 7: Jenna Sharp went 2 for 4 with a walk-off single and the fourth-seeded Scotties (14-5) eliminated the visiting fifth-seeded Cardinals (4-9) in the District 7 1A first round. Freeman faces top-seeded Lakeside (14-4) in a semifinal on Saturday.

Idaho

Coeur d’Alene 12, Post Falls 2: Haley Lyons hit a two-run home run and the second-seeded Vikings (10-8) eliminated the fourth-seeded Trojans (11-12) in a 5A District 1-2 loser-out.

Coeur d’Alene faces Meridian in a state play-in game on Saturday at McCall-Donnelly HS. Maddie Ferniman went 3 for 4 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs for CdA.

Sandpoint 12, Moscow 7: The third-seeded Bulldogs (4-16) eliminated the second-seeded Bears (7-12) in a 4A District 1-2 loser-out. Sandpoint faces top-seeded Lakeland on Saturday for the district championship.

Timberlake 12, Priest River 2: Becca Malloy went 3 for 3 with three doubles and two RBIs and went the distance in the circle and the top-seeded Tigers (17-1) beat the second-seeded Spartans (11-9) in the 3A District 1 championship. Priest River hosts Kellogg on Friday in the district second-place game for a berth to state.

Kellogg 8, Bonners Ferry 7: Erin Van Hoose went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs and the third-seeded Wildcats (6-10) eliminated the fourth-seeded Badgers (0-14) in a 3A District 1 loser-out at Timberlake HS.

St. Maries 10, Grangeville 9: Hannah Harvey scored on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh to cap a three-run rally and the Lumberjacks (10-9) eliminated the Bulldogs (4-10) in the 2A District 1-2 second-place game. St. Maries faces a state play-in game on Saturday at McCall-Donnelly HS. Allie Brebner and Kirsten Miller drove in a pair of runs apiece.

Orofino 13, St. Maries 9: Hayley Bretz went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and the top-seeded Maniacs (9-9) beat the second-seeded Lumberjacks (9-9) in the 2A District 1-2 championship game.
