Prep baseball: Richland tops Mead in semifinal; Central Valley, Gonzaga Prep win loser-outs

Connor Budzek went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run, Drew Daves went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and top-seeded Richland (14-8) beat visiting, fourth-seeded Mead (13-9) 9-4 a District 8 4A baseball semifinal on Tuesday.

Richland advances to the district title game against Hanford on Saturday while Mead plays at Central Valley in a loser-out.

Central Valley 11, Ferris 6: Matt Gabbert went 2 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs and the host Bears (19-3) eliminated the Saxons (11-11) in a loser-out. Kyle Clay allowed one earned run and struck out four over four innings for CV.

Gonzaga Prep 6, Chiawana 4: Ryun Cross struck out 10 in a complete game and the visiting Bullpups (12-10) eliminated the Riverhawks (9-12) in a loser-out. Austin Reed, Brock Molenda and Mookie Redmond had two hits apiece for G-Prep, which hosts Walla Walla in a loser-out on Saturday.

District 8 3A

Kamiakin 15, Mt. Spokane 6: Tanner Sullins drove in four runs and the Braves (21-2) beat the visiting Wildcats (20-2) in the championship game. Brandon Ivanich had three hits and two RBIs for Mt. Spokane, which hosts a loser-out game for the second seed on Saturday.

Southridge 3, Shadle Park 2: Steven Englert drove in a pair of runs and the Suns (18-5) eliminated the Highlanders (13-9) in a loser-out game in Kennewick.

Kennewick 11, North Central 1: Jacob Anderson allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk and the Lions (14-9) eliminated the visiting Indians (3-19) in a loser-out game.

District 7 2A

West Valley 5, Pullman 1: Jacob Schmidt and Spencer Shipman combined on a three-hitter and the visiting Eagles (9-7) topped the Greyhounds (14-4) in the championship. Bryan Andrews had two hits and three RBIs for West Valley, which hosts East Valley (Yakima) on Saturday for a berth to state. Pullman travels to Ellensburg in a crossover.

West Valley 1, Cheney 0: Hunter Tiffany struck out six in a complete-game three-hitter and the Eagles (8-7) eliminated the Blackhawks (12-5) in an earlier semifinal at Pullman HS. Bryan Andrews went 3 for 3 with an RBI for West Valley.

District 7 1A

Colville 8, Freeman 1: John Knight pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts and the Indians (16-2) defeated the Scotties (12-4) in the district championship game at Avista Stadium. Colville advances to state while Freeman faces a crossover on Saturday.

Deer Park 10, Riverside 6: Tanner Bratcher had two doubles, an RBI and two runs, Tannis Kosiorek had a double, a triple and three RBIs and the Stags (14-6) eliminated the Rams (8-11) in the district third-place game at Avista. Deer Park plays at Chelan on Saturday in a crossover.

District 7/9 1B

Colton 15, Odessa 10: Reece Chadwick had a double and triple and struck out four over four innings and the Wildcats (15-5) topped the Tigers (15-3) in a semifinal at Northwest Christian School. Colton plays Almira/Coulee-Hartline in the district title game on Saturday, while Odessa faces Selkirk in a loser-out game.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 5, Pomeroy 3: Dalton Kenter went 3 for 4 with an RBI and struck out 10 over four relief innings and the Warriors (16-1) beat the Pirates (11-7) in a semifinal at NWC. Pomeroy faces Cusick in a loser-out on Saturday.

Selkirk 6, Curlew 3: Jay Link struck out 10 over five innings, Logan Link went 1 for 2 with three RBIs and the Rangers (13-5) eliminated the Cougars (7-11) in the first round at NWC.

Cusick 3, Garfield-Palouse 0: Ethan Hardie struck out 14 in a two-hitter and the Panthers (8-7) eliminated the Vikings (6-8) in the first round at NWC. Hardie added a double and a run for Cusick.


Lewiston 7, Coeur d’Alene 5: Trayton Skinner had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the visiting Bengals (11-6) past the Vikings (15-1) in the 5A District 1-2 championship game. Coeur d’Alene faces Lake City in a loser-out on Thursday.

Lake City 4, Post Falls 1: Bridger Rinaldi struck out six in a complete-game four-hitter and the Timberwolves (8-12) eliminated the visiting Trojans (6-16) in a 5A District 1-2 loser-out. Lake City plays in a loser-out game on Thursday.

Timberlake 14, Kellogg 0: Kobe Harris went 4 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and struck out six over four innings and the Tigers (15-8) beat the Wildcats (1-14) in a 3A District 1 first-round game. Timberlake hosts Bonners Ferry for the district title on Thursday while Kellogg plays Priest River in a loser-out game.

Bonners Ferry 17, Priest River 4: Bo Bateman went 3 for 4 with five RBIs and the Badgers (9-8) beat the Spartans (4-13) in a 3A District 1 first-round game at Timberlake HS.
