Spokane Indians pregame: Indians look to get back on track in second of three-game set with Salem-Keizer

The Spokane Indians host the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the second of a three-game Northwest League series at Avista Stadium at 6:35 p.m.

The Indians (10-8, T-first in North) will send RHP Florencio Serrano (0-1, 5.79) against Jesus Ozoria (2-0, 2.61) for the Volcanoes (11-7, second in South).

Player to watch: CF Kellen Strahm had the day off on Monday but is back in the lineup hitting second. In just eight games this season, the Texas Rangers’ fifth-round pick in the 2019 draft is hitting .303 and is on a five-game hitting streak.

Last night: Northwest League home run leader Franklin Labour added two to his total and the Spokane Indians fell to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7-5 in the opener of a three-game series at Avista Stadium on Monday.

The Indians, once 9-2 with a five-game lead in the North Division, fell to 10-8. The Indians have lost three straight and six of their last seven games.

Starter Zak Kent lasted one inning plus three batters and allowed three earned run son four hits and a walk with one strikeout. Nic Laio struck out three over 2.1 scoreless innings and Nick Starr had four Ks over two innings.

Texas Rangers No. 29 prospect catcher David Garcia hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning.

Ex-Indians news: Reliever Emmanuel Clase struck out three in one inning of work for Double-A Frisco.

The 21-year-old fireballer owns a 4.81 ERA in 23 games with the RoughRiders but in his last 12 appearances, he hasn’t allowed a walk or an extra-base hit and opponents are hitting .174/.174/.174. He has 24 strikeouts against six walks in 24.1 innings in Double-A.
