Gonzaga Prep teammates Tommy Kimmel and Nate Plaster will square off Friday for the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Junior Boys Amateur title.
Kimmel, a rising junior, and Plaster, a senior, both won a pair of matches Thursday at Port Ludlow (Wash.) Golf Course, setting up an all Bullpups matchup in Friday’s 36-hole final.
Kimmel, the 10th seed, downed Mill Creek’s Tyler Spalti 4&2 before eliminating Lynden’s Logan Medcalf in the semifinals. Kimmel, who qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur earlier this summer, evened the match against Medcalf by winning the 18th hole and advanced to the final by winning the first extra hole.
Plaster, seeded 16th, eliminated No. 2 Ian Siebers of Bellevue 2&1 in the quarterfinals. Plaster knocked off Redmond’s Ryan Ho 2&1 in the semifinals.
Gonzaga Prep won the 2018 4A state title before finishing second last season. Plaster tied for second individually. Kimmel, the Greater Spokane League player of the year, shared 10th.
G-Prep’s Matt McGann advanced to the first flight championship match. McGann rolled past Hayden Klein of Bend, Oregon, 7&5. McGann faces Everett’s Andrew Martin in Friday’s title match.
Lewis and Clark’s Darby Rickel lost to Mercer Island’s Gihoe Seo 1-up in the PNGA Junior Girls Amateur quarterfinals.
