By the numbers

1-10: The M’s record against Houston this season.

Our take from Right Field

M’s manager Scott Servais has called this a “season of opportunity.” That’s no more evident than in the case of McClain, who was working out during the day and delivering Uber Eats at night last offseason to make ends meet.

Up next

The Mariners and Astros will continue their three-game series at 4:10 p.m. Saturday at Minute Maid Park. LHP Marco Gonzales (12-8, 4.21 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Aaron Sanchez (3-14, 6.07), who will be making his Astros debut after being acquired from Toronto at the trade deadline.
