Six players hit home runs as the host Houston Astros defeated the Mariners 10-2 Friday night.
Yordan Alvarez, Jake Marisnick, Martin Maldonado, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Aledmys Diaz went deep for the Astros, who have won 12 of their past 15 games.
Trailing 9-0, the Mariners’ only runs came on a two-run homer by Daniel Vogelbach in the sixth inning, his team-leading 26th of the season. Seattle lost its second in a row after a six-game winning streak that matched its season-high.
Mariners left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (4-8) allowed six runs on nine hits in four innings, with no walks and one strikeout. He allowed four home runs.
Astros left-hander Wade Miley (10-4), a former Mariner, went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
1B/3B Ryon Healy is scheduled to have season-ending surgery on his hip Tuesday after seeing a specialist at Stanford. Healy has been out since May 21 with back issues that were diagnosed as spinal stenosis. … The M’s selected the contract of RHP Reggie McClain from Triple-A Tacoma. McClain was 3-4 with a 2.23 ERA in 29 games across three levels of the minor leagues this season, with 72 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings. … Both McClain and RHP Zac Grotz made their major-league debuts Friday, increasing the number of players who have done so for the M’s this season to 15.

M’s manager Scott Servais has called this a “season of opportunity.” That’s no more evident than in the case of McClain, who was working out during the day and delivering Uber Eats at night last offseason to make ends meet.
The Mariners and Astros will continue their three-game series at 4:10 p.m. Saturday at Minute Maid Park. LHP Marco Gonzales (12-8, 4.21 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Aaron Sanchez (3-14, 6.07), who will be making his Astros debut after being acquired from Toronto at the trade deadline.
