Cal Poly Mustangs hold off Eastern Washington 59-55

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Dye Stahley scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and the Cal Poly Mustangs held off the Eastern Washington Eagles 59-55 in nonconference women’s basketball action on Wednesday.

Violet Kapri Morrow tossed in a season-high 26 points – two off her career high – and grabbed five rebounds to pace the Eagles (1-4). Uriah Howard finished with 10 points and seven boards off the bench.

Howard hit a 3-pointer to pull EWU within 56-53 with 45 seconds left to play, but the Mustangs (2-6) made their free throws down the stretch to snap a six-game losing streak.

Alissa Sealby had four blocked shots for the Eagles, who made 16 of 57 shots from the floor (28 percent) and 6 of 28 from 3-point range (21 percent).

Devin Stanback added 15 points and seven rebounds for Cal Poly. The Mustangs sank 20 of 48 shots (42 percent). Cal Poly made 3 of 11 from distance.

The Eagles return to action Sunday when they host Fresno State at 1:05 p.m.
