Jake Constantine threw for four touchdowns and ran for another and the Weber State defense picked off four passes to lead the second-seeded Wildcats to a 48-23 win over Southeast Missouri on Saturday in Ogden, Utah, in the second round of the FCS playoffs.
The Wildcats (10-2) are home against seventh-seeded Maine next weekend.
After the Redhawks (9-4) took a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter, Constantine threw four touchdown passes in the second quarter. Two of the scores were set up by interceptions, one in the final minute of the half. Isiah Jackson scored on a 16-yard pass with 58 seconds to go and again on a 4-yarder after Jordan Praetor returned the first of his two picks 17 yards.
UC Davis 23, Northern Iowa 16: Jake Maier threw for 310 yards and a touchdown and the Aggies beat the Panthers to set up a rematch with Eastern Washington.
It was the first FCS playoff appearance for No. 6 seed UC Davis (10-2).
Tehran Thomas had 87 yards rushing on 13 carries, and Ulonzo Gilliam added 48 yards and a touchdown run for UC Davis. Max O’Rourke made three of his four field-goal attempts.
Eli Dunne was 22-of-40 passing for 273 yards and threw two interceptions for Northern Iowa (7-6). Trevor Allen ran for 62 yards and a touchdown. Austin Errthum made 3 of 5 field goals.
Maier tossed a 4-yard pass to Wesley Preece for the only touchdown in the first half, and the Aggies led 16-6.
Gilliam’s 1-yard run stretched the lead to 23-6. UNI answered when Allen bullied in from the 1 to cap a six-play, 74-yard drive midway through the third quarter.
North Dakota State 52, Montana State 10: Lance Dunn rushed for 127 yards and four touchdowns and the top-seeded Bison overwhelmed the Bobcats in Fargo, North Dakota.
The Bison (13-0), six-time FCS champions, will play No. 8 seed Colgate next week in the quarterfinals after rushing for 407 of their 493 total yards. Two other Bison backs went over 100 yards: Bruce Anderson with 118 and a touchdown and Ty Brooks with 103 and a score. Adam Cofield added the Bison’s seventh TD on the ground, a school playoff record, for the game’s final points.
