Gonzaga Bulldogs junior right-hander Eli Morgan was named the West Coast Conference/Rawlings pitcher of the week it was announced by the league on Monday.
Morgan struck out a career-high 12 batters in a 5-2 victory over the California Golden Bears last Friday. He allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of work. Morgan fanned eight hitters in the first three innings.
Morgan retired the final seven Bears he faced en route to notching his first victory of the campaign. The Bulldogs are 2-1 in games started by the righty.
Morgan is second in the conference and 25th in the nation with 26 strikeouts this season.
Morgan was named the WCC’s pitcher of the week twice last season.
Gonzaga returns to action against host Cal State Fullerton on Friday.
