Former Gonzaga Bulldog Jordan Mathews has reached an agreement to play for the New Orleans Pelicans in an NBA summer league.
Mathews wasn’t picked in Thursday’s NBA Draft but had summer-league options with Houston, Memphis and New Orleans. The graduate transfer from Cal chose New Orleans because it represented the best fit for the 6-4 wing.
Mathews started every game for the Zags last season. He averaged 10.6 points and connected on a team-high 85 3-pointers.
Mathews made one of the biggest shots in program history, a 3-pointer with less than one minute left to lift Gonzaga to a 61-58 victory over West Virginia in the Sweet 16. The Zags eventually reached the NCAA title game, losing to North Carolina 71-65.
New Orleans opens summer league July 7th in Las Vegas.
