Jake Pfennigs leads Post Falls boys in romp over Lake City

The avalanche that hit the visiting Lake City boys basketball team was a combination of Jake Pfennigs and nine of his best friends.

Pfennigs, a 6-foot-7 guard/wing/post or whatever he wants to be, scored 15 of his game high 20 points in the first quarter, and the Post Falls Trojans ran over Lake City 75-51 in a 5A Inland Empire League boys basketball game Friday.

A 10-0 run that concluded the first quarter and spilled over into the second allowed league-leading Post Falls (10-2 overall, 3-0 league) to take a 29-15 lead in seemingly a blink of an eye.

And a 10-2 surge to end the first half gave Post Falls a 41-23 lead at halftime.

Pfennigs had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.

“I can’t praise them enough,” LC coach Jim Winger said. “I just love Pfennigs, I just love watching him play the game. He’s a tough matchup for us.”

The scary thing is Post Falls coach Mike McLean expects his team to get even better the next couple weeks.

“I’m really impressed with this group of guys we have. We share the ball,” McLean said. “We zip the ball around, the ball’s getting reversed, side to side. It’s hard to guard and we’re getting wide-open shots because of sharing the ball.”

Kenny Louie-McGee led LC (10-3, 1-2) with 11 points.
