Dick Vitale walks past fans ready for tonight’s title game between Gonzaga and North Carolina

UPDATED: Mon., April 3, 2017

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Instantly after the doors opened, everything started to change.

What had been quiet and subdued started to become something else.

With still a couple of hours before game time, the stadium music came up and fans trickling into this big canyon of a sports venue whipped out their phone cameras.

The party was on. Bring on the main event.

“I’m gonna put on my my my my my boogie shoes,” the song playing over the stadium sound system said.

TV sports ranter Dick Vitale walked by a group of University of North Carolina students and they squealed as if he were a rock star. A bald rock star.

He posed with them and they seemed thrilled. Though sometimes it’s tough to tell when someone wearing face paint, as several of the kids were, has gone from excited to MORE excited.

Security personnel, game faces definitely on, glowered from every direction.

Friends found each other and shook hands.

UNC freshman Amber Grace Kelley made a prediction on the outcome of the game.

Her forecast: North Carolina 84, Gonzaga 78.

You know what they say. Be true to your school.

It’s almost time. Can you imagine?

Everyone in the place could have been thinking it.

Let’s do this!
