Announced The Indianapolis Colts have commissioned city firefighter and artist Ryan Feeney to create a statue of former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. The Colts say the statue will be placed outside Lucas Oil Stadium next year. Manning was quarterback of the Colts for 14 seasons, leading them to a Super Bowl title, and retired after playing four seasons with the Denver Broncos, leading them to a Super Bowl win last season.

Signed The Detroit Red Wings have signed center Luke Glendening to a $7.2 million, four-year extension. Glendening had a year left on his contract.

The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with all five of their restricted free agents. General manager Ron Francis said defenseman Ryan Murphy has agreed to a two-year contract worth nearly $1.6 million. That deal came after forwards Brendan Woods and Brody Sutter and defensemen Dennis Robertson and Keegan Lowe agreed to one-year, two-way contracts. Murphy, the last of the team’s restricted free agents, will make $750,000 this season and $825,000 in 2017-18.

The Detroit Pistons have signed second-round draft pick Michael Gbinije to a multiyear contract. The team did not announce any more details about the deal.

Left-hander Anthony Kay, selected by the New York Mets with the 31st overall pick in the amateur draft, has agreed to a minor league contract with a $1.1 million signing bonus. The agreement was $872,100 under slot value.

The Los Angeles Clippers signed center Diamond Stone, their 40th overall pick in this year’s draft.

The Brooklyn Nets signed former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Nets also signed rookie Caris LeVert, the No. 20 pick in the draft whose rights they acquired from Indiana in a trade for Thaddeus Young.

Optioned The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned struggling pitcher Shelby Miller to the Triple-A Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League. The Diamondbacks said a corresponding move will be made Friday before the team’s home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Reported The Massachusetts medical examiner’s office has ruled that former New England Patriots defensive lineman Ron Brace likely died from an irregular heartbeat combined with a heart condition caused by high blood pressure. An agency spokesman confirmed the cause of death Wednesday. The manner of death was ruled natural and is not considered suspicious.

Extended Clemson coach Monte Lee has received a new six-year contract that will pay him $2.75 million after leading the Tigers to the program’s first Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title in 10 seasons. Lee’s contract will keep him at Clemson through 2022. He’ll make $400,000 next season, with the salary gradually climbing to $500,000 in 2022, the final year of the contract. Lee will also receive a $50,000 bonus once he signs the deal.
