Washington State golf coach Dustin White announced the hiring of former professional golfer Chris Gilbert as assistant coach.

A 2013 graduate of Kansas, Gilbert was the only golfer in Jayhawks history to make two appearances in the NCAA Regionals.

“I am very excited for Chris to join the program,” White said. “He accomplished a lot of really great things during his playing days at Kansas and he knows what it takes to be successful at the collegiate level.

Seely, a plastics and composite engineering major, also was named male scholar-athlete of the year at Western Washington. Seely was the Great Northern Athletic Conference champion in the triple jump.

Both Washington State men’s and women’s track and field teams received recognition from the USTFCCCA for academic excellence.

The Cougars women had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.33 and the men had a 3.06.
