Indians rough up AquaSox in series finale

EVERETT – Luke Lanphere threw seven solid innings in relief, Darius Day connected on his first home run and the Spokane Indians powered past the Evertt AquaSox 10-1 on Saturday in the finale of their Northwest League baseball series. The win was Spokane’s first over Everett this season.

Lanphere (2-0) entered in the second and promptly retired the first 14 batters he faced. The 19-year-old righty finshed the game with six strikeouts while walking none at Everett’s Memorial Stadium. He allowed two hits.

Day’s home run, a three-run shot, came in the fourth inning and ballooned Spokane’s advantage to 7-0.

Spokane jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a Dylan Moore groundout plated leadoff hitter LeDarious Clark.

The Indians added three runs in the third inning without recording a hit. A combination of three walks, a hit by pitch, a sacrafice fly and an error saw the AquaSox put themselves in a 4-0 hole.

Spokane’s Doug Votolato collected his first RBIs of the season with two-run triple in the fifth as the Indians extended their advantage to 10-0. Leon Byrd also picked up an RBI in the inning with a sacrafice fly.

In the eighth inning, Indians first baseman Tyler Sanchez was hit by pitch for the fourth time in the game, a NWL record.

Everett starter Luiz Gohara (2-3) took the loss after lasting just 21/3 innings. The Brazilian lefty allowed four runs – three earned – on two hits, with three walks and two hit batters. He struck out one.

Nick Green started the game on the mound for the Indians (18-19). But left for unspecified reasons after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the first.

Everett (22-15) scored their lone run in the ninth inning off Indians reliever Tyler Davis.

The first half of the Northwest League season wraps up today as Spokane travels to Tri-City to open a three-game set.
