Weekend weather: Set for a rebound

The first good rainfall of the season this week may have dampened a dry landscape across the Inland Northwest, but it didn’t end the chance for some good weather for outdoor activities.

Conditions should rebound today from the storm that brought about three-tenths of an inch of rain to the Spokane area Tuesday night and Wednesday.

A quick-moving area of higher air pressure should stabilize conditions today and Friday before a weak weather system arrives on Friday night into early Saturday.

Then, the weather improves again for late Saturday into Sunday.

In Spokane, that means partly sunny skies are likely today with a high in the upper 50s with light east winds. Coeur d’Alene could see a bit more wind from the northeast.

Lows will fall to the lower 40s before rebounding on Friday to the middle 60s under partly sunny skies in both cities. Again, Coeur d’Alene may some lingering wind in the morning Friday.

A weak weather system arrives overnight on Friday and should clear up by 11 a.m. on Saturday. There is a 30-percent chance of rain Friday night and Saturday in both Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.

Highs on Saturday should be in the lower 60s under mostly cloudy skies.

Patchy fog is possible Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The nicest weather of the period is likely on Sunday with highs in the upper 60s under sunny skies.

Elsewhere, the forecast in Sandpoint is very similar to Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, but a few degrees cooler.

The Palouse looks about the same, too, with the high on Sunday expected to reach 70.

The Columbia Basin should be a few degrees warmer and is going to get only a slight chance of rain Friday night.

Higher elevations in the mountains are going to remain relatively mild for this time of year with temperatures during the day running in the 40s and 50s and lows at night well above freezing in the upper 30s and low 40s. Chances of rain Friday night and early Saturday are in the 30 to 40 percent range.
