Weekend weather: Cool, stormy forecast ahead

Things could get all fired up on the weather front over the next few days.

Today should start out pretty nice with warm temperatures and partly sunny skies. Then, the weather is expected to change dramatically.

A low pressure area is moving into the region later today and is bringing a risk of thunderstorms to the region late this afternoon or early this evening.

The arrival of storms should be just the start of what is shaping up to be a cool and stormy period through early next week.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for today through Tuesday for most of the Inland Northwest from the Okanogan region to the Idaho-Montana state line and as far south as the eastern Blue Mountains.

Thunderstorms are expected today to be followed by wetter conditions through Tuesday.

Locally, heavy rain is possible in northern Washington on Friday and Eastern Washington and North Idaho on Saturday as the low pressure system circulates cool air and moisture around the prevailing low-pressure area.

The first part of today is expected to be summer-like with higher air pressure pushing temperatures into the lower 80s in Spokane and other locales before the low-pressure system advances from the Pacific coast. Partly sunny skies are expected.

In Spokane, the chance of showers starts off at 30 percent today, increasing to 50 percent tonight with thunderstorms before 11 p.m.

The precipitation chances remain in the 40- to 50-percent range before diminishing on Saturday night and Sunday.
