Weekend weather: Temps will cool off for holiday

If you were hoping that this week’s warm sunny weather will continue through the holiday weekend, you are going to be disappointed.

However, a cooling trend that starts late tomorrow will most likely bring lots of sun and be free of rain, the National Weather Service said.

Highs today are expected to fall about four or five degrees from Wednesday’s highs in the middle to upper 80s as a strong high pressure area yields to a pair of disturbances today and tomorrow night.

Highs tomorrow should drop to the lower 80s in most locations under sunny skies.

The weather change will be most noticeable on Saturday as temperatures drop anywhere from eight to 13 degrees.

Southwest winds start to blow with gusts to 25 mph. In Spokane, the windy period should be from late morning on Saturday through about 10 p.m.

Highs in the Inland Northwest Saturday should be mainly in the lower 70s with the middle 70s likely in the Columbia Basin and other areas to the west. Mostly sunny skies are expected.

The weather change tomorrow night and Saturday should draw in dry air, limiting the chance of showers to the Cascade crest and mountains near the Canadian border as far south as Sandpoint.

Dry and mostly sunny weather should continue on Sunday as a cool northwest flow develops in the wake of the low pressure area and cold front tomorrow night.

Temperatures rebound a few degrees on Monday to the middle 70s under partly sunny skies in Spokane.

Showers are still possible in far North Idaho from Saturday through at least Tuesday along with partly to mostly sunny skies.
