Indians lose in 10th, 5-4

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – A.J. Kirby-Jones hit a one-out solo homer in the 10th inning Thursday to give the Vancouver Canadians (4-3) a 5-4 win over the Spokane Indians in Northwest League baseball at Nat Bailey Stadium. The homer, to right field against fourth Indians pitcher Kevin Johnson (0-1), capped Vancouver’s comeback from a 4-0 deficit and gave the Canadians their second consecutive 10-inning win over the Indians (1-5). Spokane, 1-3 in the series, had runners on first and second with nobody out in its 10th but failed to score. Starters Randol Rojas of Spokane and Kyle Christensen of Vancouver rolled through five shutout innings. Rojas allowed three hits and Christensen gave up four. Spokane had better luck against Daniel Tenholder, who entered in the sixth. The Indians sent nine runners to the plate in the sixth and tallied five hits and four runs. Guillermo Pimentel had the key hit, a one-out double to left that scored Andrew Clark and Michael Olt. Indians reliever Ben Henry cruised through the sixth before finding trouble during the Canadians’ seventh. Douglas Landaeta led off with a homer to left, and Gernaldo Castillo lined a two-run double to right and scored on Christopher Affinito’s infield single.
