Mike Colbrese, the executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, has taken some heat for the recent changes in the state basketball tournament format.
This afternoon, Colbrese and readers had a chance to talk about the recent changes in an online chat at spokesman.com.
For Spokane, and all of Eastern Washington, the change in the state tournaments is dramatic. All of the classifications will continue to compete in a 16-team “state tournament,” but just eight of those teams will actually compete on the final three days at the official state tournament site.
Class 4A and 3A teams will be in Tacoma, 2A and 1A teams will be in Yakima, and 2B and 1B teams will be in Spokane. All the tournaments will be played on the same weekend.
Review a replay of the chat below.
