Compiled From Wire Services

Mirjana Lucic, younger by nine months than Anna Kournikova, fell 6-4, 6-2 to the Russian in a matchup of 16-year-olds at the Lipton Championships in Key Biscayne, Fla.

Kournikova’s opponent in the third round will be Monica Seles, who ended a fourmonth layoff by edging Maria Antonio Sanchez Lorenzo 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3.

In men’s play, three-time Lipton champion Andre Agassi continued his fast start this year by defeating Nicolas Escude 6-2, 6-3. Australian Open champion Petr Korda and French Open champ Gustavo Kuerten won.

The U.S. Davis Cup team has lost five consecutive doubles matches, a streak that Todd Martin and Richey Reneberg will try and snap next month against Russia.

Andre Agassi will be joined in singles by Jim Courier for the first-round match April 3-5 at Stone Mountain, Ga.

Captain Tom Gullikson announced the lineup Saturday.
