Prairie Back On Top As 4a Girls Champ

Courtney Cushing scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half as Prairie won its second state title in five years with a 68-55 victory over Enumclaw Saturday in the State 4A girls basketball tournament in the Kingdome.

Enumclaw forward Tammy Annas, named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, led the Hornets with 22 points.

Allison Holsten’s free throw with 2.6 seconds on the clock gave the Bombers (25-4) a triumph over the Cougars (25-4) for third place. The Cougars took sixth.

Defending state champion Eagles (26-3) had 13 points from senior point guard Julie Kaczor and 12 from Jessica Iserman, defeating the cold-shooting Lions (22-7) for fourth place. The Lions finished seventh.
