Bryant Takes Lead

By Compiled From Wire Services

Brad Bryant, who doesn’t command much attention on the PGA Tour, will finish the Tucson Chrysler Classic at the center of it.

He carded a 5-under-par 67 to overtake Steve Jones and open a two-stroke lead over the field.

Jones and Paul Stankowski were at 206. Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett shot a 72 and is at 209.

At Sarasota, Fla., Bud Allin, who didn’t have a spot in this week’s American Express Invitational until 5 minutes before the entry deadline, now has a chance for his first Senior Tour victory.

The 52-year-old Allin shot a 4-under-par 68 at the windblown Tournament Players Club at Prestancia to finish at 136 and take a three-shot lead.

Annika Sorenstam survived a series of challenges and an abrupt change in weather to turn back defending champion Meg Mallon by a stroke in the Hawaiian Ladies Open at Honlulu.

Sorenstam struggled to a 1-over-par 73 on a windy, rain-swept final day to finish at 10-under-par 206, one stroke ahead of Mallon, who had a 70. Robin Walton of Clarkston finished at 222 after a final-round 77.
