St. Louis Rams?

By Compiled From Wire Services

Los Angeles Rams president John Shaw arrived in St. Louis to complete a deal to move the franchise.

A Rams source in St. Louis said team owner Georgia Frontiere was to follow late Sunday night.

“I’m on my way,” Frontiere told the Los Angeles Times. “I have to give my approval. I have no other choice.”

The Rams, who projected a loss of some $6 million in Anaheim in 1994, have been offered a new stadium and practice facility and a potential profit of more than $20 million a year in St. Louis. That would make the franchise the most profitable in the NFL.

The Rams have played in Southern California for 49 years since coming from Cleveland. They were the first major professional sports team to move to California and will become the first NFL team to leave.

The Fox network won’t oppose the move of the Los Angeles Rams to St. Louis or request a rights fees rebate over the loss of a team in the No. 2 TV market, Fox CEO Rupert Murdoch said before the NFC title game.

The Rams move would leave Fox’s Sunday NFC package without a team in the nation’s second-largest TV market.
