Kenny Perry shot a 5-under-par 67 on Saturday to regain the lead after four rounds of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic at Indians Wells, Calif.
Curtis Strange birdied seven of his last nine holes in a 9-under 63 to pull into a four-way tie for second.
Perry, who was the first-round leader, was at 23-under 265 after 72 holes of pro-am play. Strange, David Duval, Tommy Tolles and Harry Taylor, the leader after the second and third rounds, were two strokes back at 21-under 267.
Pullman’s Kirk Triplett has a four-day total of 274, 14-under par.
At Lutz, Fla., Dave Stockton, Gary Player and Dave Eichelberger were tied for the lead going into the final round of the Senior PGA Tour’s GTE Suncoast Classic.
The trio is tied for the lead at 6 under, while J.C. Snead and Bob Charles are one stroke back. Another seven players, including Ray Floyd, trailed by two strokes at 4 under, while Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Jim Albus and Bob Murphy are among nine golfers at 3 under, three strokes out of the lead.
At Honolulu, Barb Thomas shot a 2-under 70 to gain her first LPGA victory in 11 years, a commanding five-stroke victory in the $550,000 Hawaiian Ladies Open. She finished with a 54-hole total of 204, 12 strokes under par.
