Dozens of student-athletes at Washington State, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington and Idaho got their wishes granted Monday afternoon when the NCAA Division I Council voted to allow seniors, and  others who competed in sports, an extra year of eligibility after their seasons were cut short because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Area roundup: Gonzaga volleyball edged by Montana State

Kaylie Loewen had a career-high 20 kills and Jenna Kuehn added 29 assists, but Gonzaga (0-3) was edged by Montana State (1-2) in a five-set decision (21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 15-9) in the Montana State Bobcat Classic in Bozeman on Saturday. The Zags rallied for the final two points in the fourth game, both on kills by Loewen, to force the deciding fifth game.
