Spokane Chiefs forward Luke Toporowski has been named to USA Hockey’s 2018 U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team that will participate in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in August.  Toporowski, from Bettendorf, Iowa, is one of 21 players selected for the team.

The 17-year-old was the Chiefs’ first round selection (8th overall) in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft and made his debut for the Chiefs last season, playing in 61 games and scored 10 goals and 13 assists.  Last week, Toporowski recorded three goals and four points in four games at USA Hockey’s Select 17 Player Development Camp and was named to the All-Star roster.  Toporowski is joined by Everett Silvertips’ goalie Dustin Wolf as members of the U.S. Team to have played in the WHL during the 2017-18 season.

The U.S Under-18 Men’s Select Team will compete Aug. 6-11 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer and Edmonton, Alberta in an international tournament that will also feature Canada, Russia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden and Slovakia.

Current Chiefs Jaret Anderson-Dolan (Canada-2016), Filip Kral (Czech Republic-2016) and Ty Smith (Canada-2017) are among Spokane’s current players to have participated in Hlinka Gretzky Cup’s in prior years.
