Former Washington State defensive lineman Hercules Mata'afa was waived by the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday. The Vikings waived Mata'afa with the intention that he will clear waivers and be placed on the injured reserve list and also signed rookie linebacker Mike Needham from Southern Utah as a replacement.

Earlier this month, Mata'afa suffered a torn ACL on a kickoff attempt during Vikings' practice. The former Cougar went to Instagram after his injury thanking the Vikings for their support during his recovery.

Mata'afa signed a three-year deal worth $1.71 million after being an undrafted free agent in the 2018 NFL Draft. Mata'afa is set to make $480,000 this season, but his last two years of his contract are not guaranteed.
