No. 1 Gonzaga remains unbeaten, downs LMU 90-60


LOS ANGELES (AP) Nigel Williams-Goss had 19 points and 11 rebounds and No. 1 Gonzaga continued its roll Thursday night with a 90-60 victory over Loyola Marymount.

Gonzaga - the last remaining unbeaten team in Division I - pushed its record to 25-0 overall and 13-0 in the West Coast Conference.

The balanced Bulldogs also received 13 points from Johnathan Williams, and 11 points each from Jordan Mathews, Zach Collins and Killian Tillie.

Loyola Marymount (11-13, 4-9) was led by Steven Haney's 12 points, all coming on his four 3-pointers. Brandon Brown and Buay Tuach each had 11 points for the Lions.

Gonzaga had a huge advantage in free throws, making 34 of 44, while Loyola Marymount went to the line just eight times, making four.

The Bulldogs outrebounded the Lions 38-27.

Gonzaga entered the game leading the nation in scoring margin (23.7) and then eased to the 30-point win.

The Bulldogs led 50-28 at the break, closing the half by outscoring the Lions 24-9. Gonzaga held Loyola to 35.5 percent shooting in the first half.


Gonzaga: Continues its streaking. The Bulldogs have won a school-record 25 consecutive games, 18 consecutive conference games and have beaten Loyola Marymount 16 straight times.

Loyola Marymount: The Lions are going a different way. Fourteen of their first 21 games had been decided in the last 10 seconds. Now their last three (one win) have been decided by at least 10 points.


Gonzaga: Will face its biggest remaining task to an unbeaten regular season when the Bulldogs travel to No. 20 St. Mary's on Saturday. Gonzaga won the first meeting in Spokane 79-56 on Jan. 14.

Loyola Marymount: The Lions will attempt to return to the winning column Saturday when they host Portland. They edged the Pilots 79-78 in Portland on Jan. 14.
