Mattress Firm Student Athlete of the Week: Anie Lawlor

Posted: Updated:

Senior Anie Lawlor has scored 31 goals and assisted on 19 others for Helena High in her career. She brings the same passion to community service.
"The benefits to having them do other things outweigh how tired they get when they [practice]", Helena High Soccer coach Mike Meloy said. "There's a good balance that has to be struck and I think Anie does a good job of it."
Anie represents her school on the Helena Public Schools Board of Trustees. She also tutors first and second graders in Spanish at Bryant Elementary School.
"[The students] made a bunch of cards for us at the end of the year and wrote pictures and thank you notes," Lawlor said. "It was very rewarding."
The 4.0 student doesn't have a lot of free time, but during the summer when things are less hectic she'll go backpacking with her best friend Katie O'Malley, which is in adventure.
"We tried to cook pasta, but the kerosene thing wasn't working," O'Malley said. "It ended up ruining my new water bottle. We also didn't get pasta."
On the field, Anie helped the Bengals to their fourth straight Western Conference championship. Today, Helena starts their state title defense without a playoff game, but the team captain doesn't think it'll be a problem.
"We haven't had a playoff game in the four years I've been here," Lawlor said. "We just know that in practice we have to focus on the game."
She even taught me a little Spanish. She said Helena High will win the futbol championship
