Student Athlete of the Week Presented by Mattress Firm: Tyler Stevens

Whether he's setting the tone on the line of scrimmage, teaching kids how to play flag football, or volunteering at food drives, Great Falls Central Catholic athlete Tyler Stevens never lets grass grow under his feet.

"My responsibility is to always be available when someone needs help and just be a good person," Stevens said.

Selfless, that would be one of many adjectives to describe Tyler.

"He's trying to get us to do volunteer stuff all the time, he's always trying to get other people to help," said junior wide receiver Jon Ruud.

Tyler is also involved at GFCC. He's part of leadership high school and serves as a peer counselor to those who need someone to talk to.

"I just like watching people grow with their surroundings, seeing how they do in school," Stevens said. "It's always something I've loved to do. It's always great to see someone else happy."

Tyler's most impressive quality is always having time for others, even when he doesn't have time for himself.

"He's very active but very dedicated to his outreach," GFCC Athletic Director Jamie Stevens said. "He loves to be involved in the community and be a part of Great Falls."

But when Tyler hits the field, it's his athleticism that sets him apart.

"I think he's our best defensive player. He makes plays from his defensive line position. He tackles very well. He just does a lot of good things for us," Mustangs head coach Mike Nelson said.

"he goes 100% every play, he doesn't give up, when he's hurt he doesn't tell anyone he just likes to finish," added sophomore defensive back Ethan Vincent.

And his infectious positivity helps the Mustangs regroup and play for each other.

"He's a much needed asset to the team. He's a great guy to be around. He always brings laughter to the team," Vincent said.

"If you had a team of 20 Tyler's you're going to do very well," Nelson said.
