Michael Rasmussen’s natural hat trick in the first period set the Tri City Americans on their way to an 8-3 victory over the Spokane Chiefs Saturday night in Kennewick in the two teams season opener. It was the Chiefs first loss in a season opener since the 2011-12 season.
Rasmussen scored two power play goals and one tally on a 4 on 4 in the first to give the Americans a 3-0 lead after one. The Chiefs got on the board on a Kailer Yamamoto power play goal from Keanu Yamamoto and rookie Ty Smith at 4:47 of the second period to cut the lead to 3-1. Vladislav Lukin scored his first of three on the night less than 2 minutes later to put Tri City up 4-1, but Spokane cut the lead in half on a Keanu Yamamoto power play goal from Kailer Yamamoto and Smith at 8:23 to make it a 4-2 game. Lukin would tally again to put the Americans up 5-2, but the Chiefs Jaret Anderson-Dolan would score the Chiefs third power play goal of the second at 17:38 to bring Spokane within 5-3. Rasmussen would cap a career high 4 goal night with just a minute left in the period to give Tri City a 6-3 lead after two.
Tri City would cap the scoring with goals from Morgan Geekie and Lukin in the third as they outshot the Chiefs 32-27 in the contest. Spokane would finish 3-5 on the power play while Tri City was 2-5. The Chiefs will host the Americans in Spokane’s home opener Saturday, October 1st at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
