Chiefs top Everett 3-2 in overtime, move closer to clinching playoff spot

Hudson Elyniuk scored 2:28 into overtime to lift the Spokane Chiefs to a 3-2 win over the Everett Silvertips Wednesday night in Everett. With the win, Spokane is now 4 points ahead of Tri City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with two games to play. One more point from Spokane in the final two games will clinch a playoff spot for the 10th straight season. 

Spokane took a 1-0 lead 3:13 into the contest when Markson Bechtold tipped a Tyson Helgesen shot in for his 16th goal of the season. Everett tied the game 1:02 later on a Devon Skoleski tip, but Spokane countered when Matt Sozanski scored his second goal in as many nights at 7:06 to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead after one. Spokane out shot Everett 8-4 in the period. Neither team scored in an even second period as the two teams put up 10 shots apiece. 

In the third, Everett's Matt Fonteyne tied the game at 2 with a power play goal at 14:45 of the period. Spokane then getting the game winner when Jacob Cardiff chipped the puck to Elyniuk, who scored the game winner at 2:28 of overtime. Spokane out shot Everett 25-20 in the game, going 0-2 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill. Everett won the season series from Spokane 7-3, with two of the Chiefs wins coming in Everett.

With the win, the Chiefs have tied Portland for third in the U.S. Division. Spokane will now head to Portland Friday to face the Winterhawks at 7:05pm.
