Chiefs Fall Flat on Friday, Fall to Prince George 6-0

by Chiefs Media Relations

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs couldn't get anything working on Friday night at Spokane Arena, losing 6-0 to the visiting Prince George Cougars.

The Cougars opened the scoring on the power play just over five minutes into regulation as Brad Morrison took advantage of a rebound from a Joseph Carvalho shot to score his 23rd goal of the season.

Prince George made it 2-0 at the 11:25 mark of the third period as Boston Bruins prospect Jesse Gabrielle made the Chiefs pay for turnover, capping a 2-on-1 chance with a snapped shot to the top-right corner for his 38th of the season. Morrison earned an assist on the play on his way to first star honors.

With 4:38 left in the first frame, the Cougars extended their lead to 3-0 with a goal from Jansen Harkins. The Chiefs couldn't score on a power play opportunity - they went 0-for-4 with the man advantage overall - and Harkins took the puck on the ensuing rush, wristing a shot past starting goaltender Lasse Petersen.

The Chiefs bounced back in effort in the second period, outshooting the Cougars 10-7, but they couldn't solve goaltender Ty Edmonds, who was perfect in a 35-save shutout.

Prince George added on late with three goals, scored by Luke Harrison, Brogan O'Brien and Kody McDonald, all within the final 11 minutes of regulation.

Petersen started for Spokane and made 17 saves on 22 shots faced in 50:27. Tyson Verhelst came on in relief and stopped 2-of-3 shots in 9:33.

The Chiefs will look to bounce back tomorrow night on the road in Kelowna against the defending WHL Champion Rockets. Mike Boyle will have the call on 790 KGA with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m.
