SPOKANE, Wash. - Lasse Petersen made 30 saves for his 3rd shutout of the season – and 2nd with Spokane – as the Chiefs snuck away with a 1-0 victory versus Prince George on Wednesday night at Spokane Arena. Jacob Cardiff earned the game-winning goal for Spokane.

The Chiefs jumped out to their 1-0 lead late in the first period, at the 17:37 mark, as Markson Bechtold carried the puck down the right wing for a 2-on-1 opportunity. Bechtold forced the Cougars’ defenseman to commit before flipping a backhand saucer pass to the net. Cardiff was waiting in front to receive the perfectly placed pass and slam it home for his 8th goal of the season.

From there, the game was a battle of goaltenders between Petersen and Prince George’s Nick McBride. Each finished the contest with 30 shots against, but Petersen was the only one with a clean sheet at the end to earn the Chiefs’ 3rd shutout of the year.

Petersen earned two shutouts prior to Wednesday night, one with the Calgary Hitmen (versus Regina) on October 4 and one with the Chiefs versus the Everett Silvertips on November 11. Fellow Spokane netminder Tyson Verhelst earned the Chiefs’ other shutout, a 19-save effort versus Seattle on December 27.

The win vaults Spokane past Portland for third place in the U.S. Division; three points behind Seattle.
Spokane and Prince George have a day off before a rematch on Friday night, again as Spokane Arena at 7:05 p.m. It will be Subway Tyler Johnson Poster Giveaway as the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a Tyler Johnson Timeline Poster courtesy of Subway.

Tickets for Friday night and all remaining Chiefs home games are available via TicketsWest online at ticketswest.com and via the Chiefs’ Ticket Office in-person and over the phone at 509-535-PUCK.
