SPOKANE, Wash. - Hudson Elynuik scored two goals, including one shorthanded, on Saturday night at Spokane Arena as the Spokane Chiefs knocked off the rival Tri-City Americans, 4-2. It was the Chiefs’ sixth win over the Americans this season.

Elynuik found the net early – just 2:12 into regulation – with a deflection of a Curtis Miske shot to make it 1-0. The goal, also assisted by defenseman Matt Sozanski, was Elynuik’s 15th of the season and sixth on the power play.

Rookie Ethan McIndoe fired one past Tri-City goaltender Evan Sarthou under four minutes later to make it 2-0. Keanu Yamamoto circled the offensive zone right-to-left before dropping a pass to McIndoe in the high slot, from where he quickly snapped the puck in.

The Chiefs capped their three-goal first period with a rebound goal from Jacob Cardiff after a Markson Bechtold shot ricocheted just outside the left post.

Tri-City responded in the second period and brought the game within one with goals from Parker Wotherspoon and Parker Bowles. Both goals took advantage of a screen in front on Chiefs’ goalie Tyson Verhelst.

Spokane bounced back in the third as Elynuik sent the crowd of 9,534 into a frenzy with a shorthanded goal at the 6:51 mark. After forcing a turnover near the boards, the 18-year-old forward carried the puck up the left wing before sniping a shot inside the top-right corner to make it 4-2.

The win puts Spokane five points up on Tri-City as the playoff approach. They are currently in the first Western Conference Wild Card position, two points ahead of Kamloops and one behind Portland.

The Chiefs have little time to rest with an early 4:05 p.m. start tomorrow in Everett. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA NW Sports Talk with the pre-game show starting a 3:30.
