The Spokane Chiefs were shut out for just the third time this season, as the Lethbridge Hurricanes won their 8th straight game with a 4-0 win over the Chiefs Wednesday night in Lethbridge, Alberta. The Hurricanes win snapped a 4 game losing streak against Spokane and was the first win over the Chiefs since 2011. Spokane has now dropped 6 of their last 7 contests.

Lethbridge took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Brayden Burke's goal at 6:06. Spokane killed off three Hurricane power plays in the first against the top rated power play unit in the league. Neither team scored in the second period as the Chiefs out shot Lethbridge 12-9 in the stanza. Spokane killed off two more Canes power plays in the second.

The third period proved decisive, as Lethbridge would score a shorthanded goal from Georgio Estephan 1:31 into the period to take a 2-0 lead. Burke would then score at 7:25 and again at 12:58 to complete his first career hat trick. Estephan finished with 4 points with his goal and three assists, and linemate Tyler Wong chalked up 3 assists. Spokane outshot Lethbridge 32-31, going 0-2 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill. Chiefs goalie Tyson Verhelst was brilliant on the night with 27 saves, several on point blank one on one chances.

The Chiefs remain 3 points ahead of Tri City for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Spokane will travel to Cranbrook, BC to face the Kootenay Ice Friday night at 6pm Pacific Time. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 5:30pm.
