SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Gonzaga women's basketball team lost their second straight game at San Diego Saturday, 63-54.

The Toreros (16-2, 6-1 West Coast Conference) forced GU into a season-high 25 turnovers, while committing only 10. USD finished with a 24-12 edge in points off of turnovers. Gonzaga finished with a dominating 54-19 rebound advantage. The Zags were two rebounds shy of matching their season-high.

After being held to 32 percent shooting from the field in the first half, San Diego responded with 60 percent shooting in the second half. The Bulldogs finished at 35.6 percent. The Toreros made three of their 11 three-point attempts, while GU missed all nine. The Zags were 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) from the free-throw line, compared to USD's 14-of-23 (60.9 percent).

The second-leading scorer in the conference, Malina Hood, finished with 14 points. She came into the game averaging 19 points per outing. Katherine Hamilton also had 14 points, while Caroline Buhr matched her career-high with 10 points. The WCC-leader in assists, Cori Woodward, dished out a game-high six.

The Zags (13-6, 5-2 WCC) scored the first eight points of the game and held the hosts scoreless for the opening seven minutes. San Diego missed their first nine shots from the field and trailed 12-6 after the first quarter. A lay-in from Jill Barta with 3:28 left in the second quarter gave Gonzaga a 21-14 advantage. USD countered with a 9-0 run to take its first lead, but the Bulldogs had a 26-23 at halftime.

San Diego opened the second half on a 20-6 run and took a 45-36 lead into the final quarter. USD made 10 of their 14 shots (71.4 percent) from the field in the third quarter. The Toreros led by as many as 13 points in the fourth period.

Barta led Gonzaga with 15 points and three steals. Kiara Kudron and Shelby Cheslek both grabbed 12 rebounds. Cheslek also blocked three shots. Laura Stockton had five assists.

The Bulldogs return home after three straight road games. GU welcomes Saint Mary's (14-4, 5-2) Thursday at 6 p.m. The Gaels won at Pacific, 82-73, Saturday.
