NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Whitworth University will head back into Northwest Conference women's basketball play on a roll after dominating Eureka College 56-27 on Wednesday night at the Music City Classic.

The Pirates improved to 7-4 after posting their best defensive effort of the season, holding the Red Devils to only three points in both the second and fourth quarters.

KC McConnell scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Whitworth.  Alexis McLeod added nine points and five assists.  Ten of the 12 Pirate players who appeared in the game scored at least two points.

Whitworth dominated despite its own offensive inconsistency in the game.  The Bucs made 23 of 64 (36%) from the floor, including 6-23 (26%) from three-point range.  Whitworth was an uncharacteristic 4-10 from the free throw line.

But it was all about the defense for the Pirates.  Whitworth held Eureka to 19% (8-43) from the field and forced 23 turnovers.  The Bucs also finished with a 49-33 edge in rebounding.

Eureka (2-7 overall) took a 2-0 lead and never led again after Whitworth scored the next nine points, capped by a Jessica Thoens three-pointer.  The Pirates led 14-9 after one quarter before blowing the game open in the second period.   Eureka committed nine turnovers and scored only three points in the second quarter as Whitworth opened a 30-12 lead at the half.

The Bucs quickly stretched the lead to 38-13 early in the third and they were not threatened the rest of the way.  The Pirates' largest lead was the final margin of 29 points.

Emily Camden was Eureka's leading scorer with eight points.

Whitworth (2-0 in the NWC) will host Whitman (9-1, 2-0) on Tuesday as both teams resume Northwest Conference play.  The game will be televised live by SWX.
