NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Babson University used a late 12-0 run to overcome Whitworth 70-62 in a non-conference women's basketball game on Tuesday afternoon at the Music City Classic.

The Pirates dropped to 6-4 and saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.  The Beavers improved to 7-2.

The first half included seven ties and three lead changes.  Whitworth took an early 10-4 lead after back-to-back three-pointers by Jessica Thoens and Grace Douglas.  But Babson cut the lead to 13-11 by the end of the first period.  The Beavers then took a 29-23 lead late in the second quarter after a basket by Giovanna Pickering.  But the Pirates closed the half on a 9-2 run, including five points by KC McConnell, to take a 32-31 lead into halftime.

Callie Harwood's jumper early in the third quarter gave Whitworth a 39-33 lead.  But Babson rallied to go ahead 51-49 at the end of the third when Marissa Cicchetti hit a jumper at the buzzer.

The Pirates looked poised to pick up a win when Alexis McLeod scored with 5:50 to play to give Whitworth a 57-53 lead.  But then the Bucs got cold, missing their next seven shots while Babson was going on its decisive 12-0 run.  But the time Kristen Ferola scored with under three minutes left, the Beavers had taken a 65-57 lead.

Faith Emerson posted another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  McConnell and Douglas also scored 14 points each, while Harwood finished with 11 points.  Whitworth shot 37% (23-62) from the field and the Bucs were not sharp at the free throw line (9-15, 60%).

Ferola scored 20 points and Cicchetti added 19 for Babson.  The Beavers shot 39% (26-66) and made only 61% of their free throws.  But they got to the line 28 times and made 17.  Babson also outrebounded Whitworth 51-37.
