Bulldogs Close Out Nonconference Slate With Road Win

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Gonzaga women's basketball team closed their non-conference schedule with an 80-50 win at Colgate Sunday.

In their first-ever game in the state of New York, the Bulldogs (8-4) cruised to the victory behind an outstanding effort on both ends of the court. Gonzaga made a season-high 11 three-pointers. It shot 55 percent (11-for-20) from behind-the-arc. GU shot a season-best 56 percent from the field, while holding the Raiders to 31 percent.

Five Zags finished in double-digit scoring led by Zhané Templeton's game-high 16 points. The freshman made six of her 11 attempts from the field, including 4-of-8 from behind-the-arc. Emma Stach made four three-pointers and had a new career-high of 15 points. Laura Stockton added 14 points and four assists. Shelby Cheslek and Jill Barta contributed 11 and 10 points.

Cheslek grabbed 11 rebounds, finishing with her 13th career double-double. Barta made a game-high three steals. Georgia Stirton also had four assists.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass and finished with a 45-20 rebound advantage. GU made 18 assists and had eight steals.

Gonzaga scored the game's first nine points behind three straight three-pointers from Stach. After a 12-0 run, the Zags had their largest lead of the opening quarter, 21-5, with 1:53 left in the period. GU led 37-17 at the halftime break. Gonzaga entered the final quarter with a 58-32 advantage, and took its largest lead of 38 points with 2:56 left in regulation.

Colgate (1-7) was paced by Paige Kriftcher's 11 points. Josie Stockill and Randyll Butler both grabbed four rebounds.

The Zags stay on the road and open West Coast Conference play at Pepperdine (4-7) on Dec. 21. Tipoff is schedule for 7 p.m.
