Posted: Updated:

The Spokane Chiefs lost for the first time in 3 games against the U.S. Division leading Seattle Thunderbirds, as Ethan Bear's hat trick led Seattle to a 5-1 win over Spokane Friday night in Kent, WA. With the loss, the Chiefs now trail the first place Thunderbirds by 3 points for the top spot in the division.

Bear's first goal of the night came on Seattle's first power play chance at 8:17 of the first period as the T-Birds took a 1-0 lead after one. Jamal Watson's third goal in the last two games against Spokane came just 1:45 into the second period as Seattle expanded the lead to 2-0. Bear would tally his second power play goal of the evening at 12:12 to give the Thunderbirds a 3-0 advantage. Spokane would get on the board when Keanu Yamamoto scored for the second straight game against Seattle with his 7th of the season from Hudson Elyniuk and Matt Sozanski at 14:39 of the second to cut the Seattle lead to 3-1 after two periods.

Seattle would put the game away with goals from Keegan Kolesaar at 1:43 of the third, and Bear's hat trick goal at 18:13 to cap off a 5-1 win. Spokane was outshot 38-26 in the contest, while the Chiefs were 0-3 on the power play and just 2-4 on the penalty kill. Seattle's win left them 11-0-1 on home ice this season. Spokane will return home for the final 4 games of the first half of the season before the Christmas break, as they will host the Tri City Americans in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game Saturday night at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
