SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University is headed back to the NCAA Division III football playoffs.  The Pirates were one of six schools to receive a Pool C (at-large) bid to the 32-team field during today’s announcement by the NCAA.

Whitworth will take on Northwest Conference champion Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon on Saturday at noon.  The Wildcats defeated the Pirates 52-10 in the teams’ first game on October 24th at Linfield.

Whitworth is making its third appearance in the Division III football playoffs and first since 2006.  The Pirates were left on the outside-looking-in following a conference championship in 2007, but that disappointment did not repeat itself this time around.  Whitworth has a 1-2 record in two previous NCAA playoff appearances.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on KSBN 1230 am in Spokane and on the internet at KSBN.net.  Linfield will also provide a free live video stream and live statistics.  Those links will appear on the Whitworth online football schedule later this week.

Whitworth fans can purchase reserved seats on the visitors’ sideline for $12 by visiting Linfield’s online ticket portal: linfield.edu/sports/tickets.  General admission seating is available for $10 per seat on the day of the game.

The host Wildcats have qualified for the NCAA playoffs for the 12th time in 16 seasons.  Last season Linfield won three playoff games before falling to eventual national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater on the road in the semifinals.  Linfield won an NCAA Division III championship in 2004.

The winner of Saturday’s game between the Pirates and Wildcats will face the winner of a game between Cortland State (N.Y.) and Salisbury (Md.) in the second round. The site for that pairing would be finalized Sunday, Nov. 22, by the NCAA.
